Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri began an official visit to China (27–28 July 2026) by meeting Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, in Beijing.

Summary

On 27 July 2026, Misri – a former Indian Ambassador to China – met Sun Haiyan to discuss deepening implementation of the leaders' guidance for bilateral relations, including issues of priority to both sides and political, people-to-people, academic and think-tank exchanges. He also met Hong Liang, Deputy Secretary General of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami attended. The MEA later said the visit covered trade and economic ties, cultural links, people-to-people exchanges and peace and tranquillity in the border areas. It followed the meeting between EAM S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of ASEAN-related meetings in Manila on 21 July.
