First Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel 'Shachi' launched at Goa Shipyard

Yard 1280 'Shachi', the first of eleven Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs) for the Indian Navy, was launched at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on 31 March 2026. The NGOPVs are being built at two shipyards, GSL Goa and GRSE Kolkata, and will be used for surveillance, search and rescue, protection of offshore assets, HADR and anti-piracy missions. The name Shachi means 'one who renders assistance'; the crest shows the Ursa Major constellation and a red-and-white lighthouse.
