First indigenous expendable turbojet engine of 350 kg thrust class delivered to DRDO
India's first indigenous Expendable Turbo Jet Engine of the 350 kg thrust class, designed by DRDO's Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), was realised and delivered to GTRE by industry partner Azad Engineering, Hyderabad, on 22 July 2026.

GTRE chose Azad Engineering as the industry partner for manufacturing and assembling the engine. Azad Engineering CEO Rakesh Chopdar handed over the engine to Director General (Aeronautical Systems) Dr K. Rajalakshmi Menon and GTRE Director Dr S. V. Ramanamurty. The Defence Ministry noted that jet engine technology has been mastered by only a handful of nations.
