Curtain raiser for first Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav; mascot 'Purvi' unveiled

On 29 November 2024 in New Delhi, Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia chaired the curtain raiser for the first-ever Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav. The three-day festival celebrating the cultural wealth of Northeast India was to be held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from 6 to 8 December 2024, with the Prime Minister inaugurating it on 6 December. It is organised by the Ministry of DoNER through its CPSE, the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC). The mascot 'Purvi', a young girl representing all eight Northeastern states, was unveiled. More than 250 artisans and entrepreneurs were to display handicrafts, handlooms and agri-horti produce, including 34 GI-tagged products, alongside an Ashtalakshmi Grameen Haat, an investors' roundtable and buyer–seller meets.
