On 17 October 2024, in New Delhi, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat launched the Evaluating Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (ETAI) Framework and Guidelines for the Armed Forces. The ETAI Framework is a risk-based assessment framework developed specifically for the defence sector. It is built on five broad principles: Reliability & Robustness, Safety & Security, Transparency, Fairness, and Privacy, and defines criteria for evaluating trustworthy AI, complemented by ETAI Guidelines.
