EPFO enables UAN generation and activation through Aadhaar Face Authentication on UMANG
EPFO announced on 9 April 2025 that members can generate and activate their Universal Account Number using Aadhaar Face Authentication Technology through the UMANG mobile app.

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, announced on 9 April 2025 the introduction of Universal Account Number (UAN) generation and activation using Aadhaar Face Authentication Technology (FAT) through the UMANG mobile app. Until now, UANs were largely generated by employers, which led to errors in fields such as father's name, mobile number or date of birth, and activation through Aadhaar OTP was a separate step. EPFO noted that in 2024-25, of 1.26 crore UANs allotted, only 44.68 lakh (35.30%) were activated by members.
