Eight core industries grow 0.5% in April 2025

The combined Index of Eight Core Industries rose 0.5% (provisional) in April 2025 over April 2024, the Commerce Ministry said on 20 May 2025.

The combined Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) increased by 0.5% (provisional) in April 2025 compared with April 2024, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said on 20 May 2025. Cement, coal, steel, electricity and natural gas recorded positive growth. Coal (weight 10.33%) grew 3.5% while crude oil (weight 8.98%) declined 2.8%. The eight core industries — coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity — make up 40.27% of the weight of items in the Index of Industrial Production. Cumulative ICI growth for 2024–25 was 4.5% (provisional).
