On 27 October 2025, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced approval of the first tranche of seven projects under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), worth ₹5,532 crore. They are expected to produce components worth ₹36,559 crore and create over 5,100 direct jobs. Five units are in Tamil Nadu, one in Andhra Pradesh and one in Madhya Pradesh. They will make HDI and multi-layer PCBs, camera modules, copper clad laminates and polypropylene films; India will get its first copper clad laminate (CCL) manufacturing facility. The plants will meet 20% of domestic PCB demand and 15% of camera module sub-assembly demand, and export 60% of output. ECMS has received 249 applications representing ₹1.15 lakh crore of investment, the highest ever in India's electronics sector.
