ECI begins distributing Voter Information Slips for Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Phase I polls

The Election Commission of India began distributing Voter Information Slips on 15 April 2026 for the Tamil Nadu and West Bengal (Phase I) Assembly elections due on 23 April, with Braille-enabled slips for voters with visual impairment.

Summary

The Election Commission of India (ECI) said on 15 April 2026 that distribution of Voter Information Slips (VIS) had begun for the general elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal (Phase I), which go to the polls on 23 April 2026. Booth Level Officers deliver the slips door to door, and distribution must be completed at least 5 days before polling day. Each slip carries the voter's details, polling station location, date and time of poll, a polling station map snapshot, dos and don'ts, and a QR code for faster matching of elector details; part and serial numbers have been made clearly legible. Slips are printed only in the languages in which the electoral roll is published, and Accessible Voter Information Slips (AVIS) with Braille are issued to voters with visual impairment in addition to the regular slip.
