ECI introduces SOP to deliver voter ID cards within 15 days

On 18 June 2025 in New Delhi, the Election Commission of India introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure to deliver Electors Photo Identity Cards within 15 days of an update in the electoral rolls.

Summary

The Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on 18 June 2025 to deliver Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) within 15 days of an update in the electoral rolls. The SOP covers new enrolments and changes in the particulars of existing electors. Each stage, from EPIC generation by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) to delivery through the Department of Posts, will be tracked in real time, and electors will get SMS notifications at every stage. A dedicated IT module has been introduced on the ECINet platform for the purpose. The measure is part of steps envisaged by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar with Election Commissioners Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi.
