The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on 25 May 2025 bye-elections to fill vacancies in five Assembly constituencies across four states: 24-Kadi (SC) and 87-Visavadar in Gujarat, 35-Nilambur in Kerala, 64-Ludhiana West in Punjab and 80-Kaliganj in West Bengal. EVMs and VVPATs are to be used at all polling stations. The ECI noted that, after the Election Laws (Amendment) Act 2021 amended Section 14 of the Representation of the People Act 1950, there are four qualifying dates a year to enrol as a voter; the Special Summary Revision with 1 April 2025 as the qualifying date was completed with final publication on 5 May 2025.
