On 1 February 2025, off the coast of Odisha, DRDO conducted three successive flight-trials of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) from Chandipur.

Summary

On 1 February 2025, off the coast of Odisha, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted three successive flight-trials of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) from Chandipur against high-speed targets flying at very low altitude. In all three tests, the missiles intercepted and destroyed targets with reduced thermal signature mimicking low-flying drones. The trials were done in final deployment configuration, with two field operators handling weapon readiness, target acquisition and firing. VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence system designed and developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat with other DRDO laboratories and industry partners, and can meet the needs of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
