On 3 and 4 October 2024, at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted three flight-tests of the 4th-generation, miniaturised Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) against high-speed targets, demonstrating maximum range and maximum altitude interception. VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence System designed and developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) with other DRDO laboratories and Development cum Production Partners (DcPPs); missiles made by the two DcPPs were used in these trials, paving the way for early user trials and production.
