Summary
DRDO and the Indian Army conducted four successful flight-tests of the Army version of the Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on 3 and 4 April 2025, the Defence Ministry announced on 4 April. The missiles intercepted and destroyed high-speed aerial targets with direct hits at long range, short range, high altitude and low altitude. The trials were carried out by the Army's Eastern and Southern Commands under DRDO guidance, with performance validated by radars and electro-optical tracking systems of the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, and paved the way for operationalisation of the system in two regiments. The MRSAM has been developed jointly by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries; the Army system comprises a multi-function radar, command post, mobile launcher system and other vehicles.
