On 19 November 2024 in New Delhi, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) celebrated the 8th anniversary of four industrial corridors approved on 20 November 2016: the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC), East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC) and Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (BMIC). Before them, the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) was India's first corridor. AKIC spans over 1,800 km and 20 cities, and ECEC is India's first coastal corridor. On 28 August 2024, the Cabinet approved 12 new projects under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme worth an estimated ₹28,602 crore.
