Summary
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 15 April 2026 to tackle misuse of telecom resources in securities market frauds and investment scams. DoT will share the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) with SEBI to identify mobile numbers linked to suspicious patterns, and will automatically share the Mobile Number Revocation List (MNRL) so that SEBI-regulated entities such as brokers and asset management companies keep investor accounts linked only to active, valid numbers. In return, SEBI will provide inputs on telecom resources linked to accounts involved in cyber fraud, impersonation or money-mule activity. The exchange runs through DoT's Digital Intelligence Platform, which connects more than 1,400 stakeholders. The MoU was signed by Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, DDG of DoT's AI and Digital Intelligence Unit, and Sandip Pradhan, Whole Time Member of SEBI.
