DoT expands Sanchar Mitra Scheme; Assam LSA partners 18 engineering colleges

On 11 July 2025 in Guwahati, the DoT's Assam LSA held the first outreach of the Sanchar Mitra Scheme, partnering 18 engineering colleges to enlist student volunteers as digital ambassadors.

Summary

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is rolling out the recently launched Sanchar Mitra Scheme nationwide, under which student volunteers serve as digital ambassadors for digital literacy and telecom awareness. In the first outreach programme, the Assam Licensed Service Area (LSA), DoT's field office, held an interactive session at BSNL Bhawan, Guwahati, on 11 July 2025 with heads and representatives of engineering institutions including IIT, IIIT and NIT, partnering 18 engineering colleges across Assam. The session was chaired by Sunita Chandra, Advisor, office of DG Telecom.
