The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said on 8 September 2026 that its Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) has prevented suspected cyber fraud losses of more than ₹5,000 crore within 15 months of its launch on 22 May 2025. Savings rose from ₹660 crore in the first six months to ₹5,043.73 crore by August 2026, with more than ₹2,000 crore prevented in the four months from April 2026. The FRI is a risk-assessment framework built under DoT's Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP). It classifies mobile numbers as Medium, High or Very High risk using inputs such as citizen reports on the Sanchar Saathi platform. Banks and payment platforms use it in real time to stop suspicious transactions; more than 1,600 organisations are on the DIP.
