DGFT imposes port restrictions on certain imports from Bangladesh

DGFT Notification No. 07/2025-26 of 17 May 2025 restricts imports of readymade garments from Bangladesh to Nhava Sheva and Kolkata seaports and bars several other goods through land ports in the Northeast and two West Bengal LCSs.

Summary

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued Notification No. 07/2025-26 on 17 May 2025, with immediate effect, imposing port restrictions on certain imports from Bangladesh. Readymade garments of all kinds may not enter through any land port and are allowed only through Nhava Sheva and Kolkata seaports. Fruit/fruit-flavoured and carbonated drinks, processed food items, cotton and cotton yarn waste, plastic and PVC finished goods (except certain industrial inputs) and wooden furniture may not enter through any Land Customs Station or Integrated Check Post in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram, or through LCS Changrabandha and Fulbari in West Bengal. The restrictions do not apply to fish, LPG, edible oil and crushed stone, or to Bangladeshi goods transiting India to Nepal and Bhutan.
