DEPwD, NIOS and NCERT sign MoU on inclusive education for persons with disabilities

On 18 June 2025 in New Delhi, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, NIOS and NCERT signed a tripartite MoU to promote inclusive education for persons with disabilities.

Summary

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) signed a tripartite MoU in New Delhi on 18 June 2025. Union Ministers Dr Virendra Kumar and Dharmendra Pradhan presided. The MoU aims to promote inclusive education for persons with disabilities in line with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and NEP 2020. Under it, NIOS will set up Special Accredited Institutions for Education of the Divyangjan (SAIEDs) by recognising special schools run by NGOs funded under DEPwD's Deendayal Divyangjan Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS).
