Delhi launches Lakshmi Yojana with ₹2,500 monthly aid for women

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana on 26 August 2026, handing sanction letters to eligible women who will get ₹2,500 a month from 1 September.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta formally launched the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana at Talkatora Stadium on 26 August 2026, with sanction letters issued to 4,190 eligible women. Under the scheme, women aged 21 to 60 from eligible households will receive ₹2,500 a month by direct benefit transfer, with the first instalment due on 1 September 2026. Beneficiaries can take ₹1,000 a month through a digital currency wallet and put ₹1,500 in a fixed or recurring deposit, or deposit the whole amount. More than 9 lakh women had registered since registration opened on 1 August, and the scheme was promised as 'Mahila Samriddhi Yojana' in the BJP's manifesto for the 2025 Delhi Assembly election.
