Delhi became the 35th State/UT to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) on 5 April 2025, when the National Health Authority (NHA) of the Union Health Ministry signed an MoU with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of NCT of Delhi, in the presence of Union Health Minister J P Nadda and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The Delhi government will give an additional top-up of Rs 5 lakh over the Rs 5 lakh cover provided by the Centre, and about 6.54 lakh families are expected to benefit. Nadda said about 36 lakh people in Delhi, including an estimated 6 lakh senior citizens, will be covered, and that all senior citizens aged 70 and above will be covered under the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana. Card distribution was to begin from 10 April 2025.
