Deendayal, V.O. Chidambaranar and Paradip ports recognised as Green Hydrogen Hubs
On 10 October 2025 the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy recognised three major ports — Deendayal (Gujarat), V.O. Chidambaranar (Tamil Nadu) and Paradip (Odisha) — as Green Hydrogen Hubs under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
Summary
On 10 October 2025 the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) formally recognised three major ports — Deendayal Port Authority (Gujarat), V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (Tamil Nadu) and Paradip Port Authority (Odisha) — as Green Hydrogen Hubs under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). The mission follows a cluster-based model because transporting hydrogen over long distances is difficult. The recognition was made under Component B2 of the revised guidelines for Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters and Green Hydrogen Hubs, issued on 27 June 2025, which lets MNRE recognise hubs without direct financial assistance; projects in these zones can access benefits under other central and state schemes. Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal welcomed the move, which supports India's goal of net-zero emissions by 2070.
