On the night of 30 November 2024, Cyclonic Storm 'Fengal' (pronounced 'Feinjal') crossed the north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts close to Puducherry, near latitude 12.05°N and longitude 79.9°E, between 2230 and 2330 hrs IST, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It crossed as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 70–80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph. The system had intensified from a deep depression into a cyclonic storm over the Southwest Bay of Bengal at 1430 hrs IST on 29 November 2024. On 1 December it weakened into a deep depression near Puducherry. IMD tracked it with its Doppler Weather Radars at Karaikal and Chennai, and had issued a red message for north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts.
