CSIR-Central Road Research Institute and JSW Steel's Salem Works signed an MoA on 24 January 2026 to use processed steel slag in road construction, the first such implementation in Tamil Nadu.

CSIR–Central Road Research Institute and JSW Steel Limited, Salem Works, entered into a partnership on 24 January 2026 to convert steel slag — an industrial by-product — into aggregates for bituminous roads. The sponsored research project covers EOF (Electric Optimization Furnace) and LRF (Ladle Refining Furnace) slag. The MoA was signed in the presence of CSIR Director General N. Kalaiselvi, who said it would be the first implementation of CSIR-CRRI's Steel Slag Road technology in Tamil Nadu.
