Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy launched the Critical Minerals Innovation Hackathon 2026 (CMiH 2026) on 25 August 2026 to support the National Critical Mineral Mission. The hackathon invites students, researchers, R&D institutions, start-ups and innovators to work on two problem statements: mineral prospectivity mapping from open data for lithium or rare-earth pegmatites, and a smart R&D and patent tracker for critical minerals. The hackathon will be organised and hosted by the Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), Nagpur, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Mines.
