On 19 November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh delivered India's National Statement at the High-level Segment of COP29 of the UN Climate Change Conference. He said decisions should be guided by equity, climate justice and Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities, and that developed countries must leave enough carbon space for developing countries. He said India had achieved its 2015 NDC targets on emission intensity and non-fossil installed capacity early, that the decision on the NCQG must be founded on climate justice, and that over one billion saplings had been planted under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'.
