India marks 75 years of the Constitution's adoption at Samvidhan Sadan; coin, stamp and books released

On 26 November 2024 (Constitution Day), President Droupadi Murmu led the commemoration of 75 years of the Constitution's adoption in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, New Delhi.

Summary

On 26 November 2024, Constitution Day, India marked the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution with the main function in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan (the old Parliament House), New Delhi, attended by President Droupadi Murmu, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister and the Lok Sabha Speaker. A commemorative coin and stamp dedicated to the 75th anniversary were released, along with the books 'Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse' and 'Making of the Constitution of India & its Glorious Journey'. The President led a live reading of the Preamble. The year-long celebrations, with the theme 'Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman', rest on four pillars: Preamble of the Constitution, Know Your Constitution, Making of the Constitution and Celebrating the Glory of the Constitution. Background: the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on 26 November 1949 and it came into effect on 26 January 1950; in 2015 the Government formally declared 26 November as Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas).
