Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Gen Anil Chauhan inaugurated residential accommodation for senior sailors and the Main Distribution Sub Station at Naval Base Karwar on 4 February 2025, in the presence of Vice Chief of the Naval Staff VAdm Krishna Swaminathan. The housing has four towers with 240 dwelling units for Master Chief Petty Officers and Chief Petty Officers. The sub-station has four 33/11 kV, 35 MVA transformers that can supply 65 MVA of stabilised power to the operational piers, housing and utilities. Both are part of the ongoing Phase IIA of Project Seabird, which will let Karwar berth a large number of ships and submarines and includes a dual-use Naval Air Station and a naval dockyard. The project has created 7,000 direct and 25,000 indirect jobs and sources over 90% of its material from Indian vendors.
