The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved on 2 September 2025 the acquisition of certain share capital and voting rights of YES Bank by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). SMBC is a Japan-based commercial bank and a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group; in India it operates as a foreign bank with branches in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai and an offshore branch in GIFT City, Gandhinagar. YES Bank is a listed private sector bank serving retail, MSME and corporate clients. The CCI said a detailed order would follow.
