On 24 October 2024, in India, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved two railway projects with a total estimated cost of about ₹6,798 crore, to be completed in five years. They are the doubling of the Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur section (256 km) and a new 57 km line between Errupalem and Namburu via Amaravati. Covering 8 districts in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Bihar, they will add about 313 km to the network. The new line will give direct connectivity to Amaravati, the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh, and the doubling will serve two Aspirational Districts, Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur.
