Summary

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 9 April 2025 approved the construction of a 6-lane access-controlled Zirakpur Bypass of 19.2 km in Punjab and Haryana under NH(O) on Hybrid Annuity Mode, at a total capital cost of ₹1,878.31 crore. The bypass starts at the junction with NH-7 (Zirakpur-Patiala) and ends at the junction with NH-5 (Zirakpur-Parwanoo) in Panchkula, avoiding the congested urban stretch of Zirakpur and Panchkula. It aims to divert traffic from Patiala, Delhi and Mohali Aerocity, provide direct connectivity to Himachal Pradesh, and is part of a plan to decongest the Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali urban agglomeration with a ring-road network, in line with PM Gati Shakti principles.
