On 25 November 2024, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved three Ministry of Railways projects with a total cost of about ₹7,927 crore, to be completed in four years. They are the Jalgaon–Manmad 4th line (160 km), the Bhusawal–Khandwa 3rd and 4th lines (131 km) and the Prayagraj (Iradatganj)–Manikpur 3rd line (84 km), covering seven districts in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh on the busy Mumbai–Prayagraj section. The projects, planned under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, will improve connectivity to two Aspirational Districts, Khandwa and Chitrakoot, and help pilgrims travelling to Jyotirlingas at Nashik (Trimbakeshwar), Khandwa (Omkareshwar) and Varanasi (Kashi Vishwanath).
