Cabinet approves ₹4,447 crore Mokama–Munger 4-lane greenfield corridor in Bihar

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on 10 September 2025 approved the 82.4 km four-lane greenfield access-controlled Mokama–Munger section of the Buxar–Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor in Bihar, at ₹4,447.38 crore on Hybrid Annuity Mode.

Summary

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved on 10 September 2025 the construction of the four-lane greenfield access-controlled Mokama–Munger section of the Buxar–Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor in Bihar. The 82.4 km section will be built on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at a total capital cost of ₹4,447.38 crore. It will connect Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur and Munger towards Bhagalpur, an emerging industrial belt with ordnance factories, the Jamalpur locomotive workshop and food processing units. With a design speed of 100 km/h, the corridor will cut travel time to about 1.5 hours and generate about 14.83 lakh man-days of direct employment.
