Cabinet approves ₹4,250-crore new components of Special Development Packages for Assam and Tripura

The Union Cabinet on 8 August 2025 approved four new components under the Central Sector Scheme of Special Development Packages (SDPs) for Assam and Tripura, with a central outlay of ₹4,250 crore, to implement peace settlements with ethnic groups.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved four new components under the existing Central Sector Scheme of Special Development Packages (SDPs) for Assam and Tripura on 8 August 2025. The components are ₹500 crore for Adivasi-inhabited areas of Assam, ₹500 crore for the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) area inhabited by the Dimasa groups (DNLA/DPSC), ₹3,000 crore for infrastructure in Assam under the settlement with ULFA groups, and ₹250 crore for tribals of Tripura under the settlement with the NLFT and ATTF. Of the total outlay of ₹7,250 crore, ₹4,250 crore will come from the Centre (₹4,000 crore for Assam over FY 2025-26 to 2029-30 and ₹250 crore for Tripura) and ₹3,000 crore from the Assam government. The Memoranda of Settlement were signed with the Adivasi groups in 2022, DNLA/DPSC in 2023, ULFA in 2023 and NLFT/ATTF in 2024.
