The Union Cabinet on 19 March 2025 approved the revised National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), a Central Sector Scheme, with an additional ₹1,000 crore, taking its budget to ₹2,790 crore for the 15th Finance Commission cycle (2021-22 to 2025-26). Component A funds dairy infrastructure such as milk chilling plants and testing laboratories, new village dairy cooperative societies, and procurement and processing in the North Eastern Region, hilly areas and UTs, plus two Milk Producer Companies. Component B, 'Dairying through Cooperatives', continues with support from the Government of Japan and JICA in nine states: Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The revised scheme aims to set up 10,000 new dairy cooperative societies and generate 3.2 lakh jobs, in line with White Revolution 2.0.
