On 28 October 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Department of Fertilizers' proposal fixing Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers, including DAP and NPKS grades, for the Rabi season 2025-26 (1 October 2025 to 31 March 2026). The tentative budget is about ₹37,952.29 crore, roughly ₹736 crore more than for Kharif 2025. The government provides 28 grades of P&K fertilisers at subsidised prices through manufacturers and importers; subsidy on P&K fertilisers has been governed by the NBS scheme since 1 April 2010.
