The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on 1 October 2025 approved four-laning of the 85.675 km Kalibor–Numaligarh section of NH-715 in Assam, including wildlife-friendly measures on the Kaziranga National Park stretch, at ₹6,957 crore.

Summary

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on 1 October 2025 approved widening the Kalibor–Numaligarh section of NH-715 in Assam to four lanes, including wildlife-friendly measures on the Kaziranga National Park stretch. The 85.675 km project will cost ₹6,957 crore and be built in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. The existing two-lane road passes through crowded towns such as Jakhlabandha (Nagaon) and Bokakhat (Golaghat), and much of it runs through or along the southern boundary of Kaziranga. During monsoon floods, animals cross the highway from the park towards the Karbi Anglong hills, and heavy traffic causes frequent wildlife deaths.
