On 6 December 2024, in New Delhi, the Union Cabinet approved a proposed MoU between the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the Research Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection of the National Research Council (CNR-IRPI), Italy, for collaboration in landslide forecasting and early warning. GSI has set up a National Landslide Forecasting Centre (NLFC) at Kolkata to operationalise regional Landslide Early Warning Systems in all landslide-prone states and UTs, and the collaboration will help integrate GSI's landslide maps with PM Gati Shakti.
