Cabinet approves continuation of Skill India Programme till 2026 with ₹8,800 crore outlay

The Union Cabinet on 7 February 2025 approved continuing and restructuring the Skill India Programme till 2026 with an outlay of ₹8,800 crore for 2022-23 to 2025-26.

Summary

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 7 February 2025 approved the continuation and restructuring of the Central Sector Scheme 'Skill India Programme' till 2026, with an outlay of ₹8,800 crore for 2022-23 to 2025-26. Three schemes of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship are now combined under it: Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0), the Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS) and the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) scheme. These schemes have more than 2.27 crore beneficiaries so far. PMKVY 4.0 targets people aged 15–59 and has added 400+ new courses in areas such as AI, 5G, cybersecurity, green hydrogen and drones.
