Cabinet extends Atal Pension Yojana up to 2030-31

The Union Cabinet on 21 January 2026 approved continuing the Atal Pension Yojana up to FY 2030-31, with funding support for promotion, development and gap funding.

Summary

The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved the continuation of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) up to FY 2030-31. The government will keep funding promotional and developmental activities, such as awareness and capacity building among unorganised workers, and gap funding to meet viability requirements. APY was launched on 9 May 2015 to give old-age income security to unorganised-sector workers. It offers a guaranteed minimum pension of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 per month from age 60, depending on contributions. As of 19 January 2026, over 8.66 crore subscribers had enrolled.
