On 25 November 2024, the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved the continuation of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) under the aegis of NITI Aayog, with an enhanced scope and a budget of ₹2,750 crore for the period till 31 March 2028. AIM 2.0 builds on AIM 1.0's Atal Tinkering Labs and Atal Incubation Centres. New programmes include the Language Inclusive Program of Innovation (LIPI), with 30 Vernacular Innovation Centres to build ecosystems in India's 22 scheduled languages; a Frontier Program for J&K, Ladakh, the North East and Aspirational Districts and Blocks with 2,500 new ATLs; a Deeptech Reactor; a State Innovation Mission; at least 10 Industrial Accelerators in PPP mode; and at least 10 Atal Sectoral Innovation Launchpads in central ministries. The release noted India's rank of 39 on the Global Innovation Index.
