Cabinet approves 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas

On 6 December 2024, in New Delhi, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved opening 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas under the civil and defence sectors and expanding the existing KV Shivamogga in Karnataka by adding two sections in all classes. The estimated cost is Rs 5,872.08 crore over eight years from 2025-26, and about 82,560 students will benefit. There are currently 1,256 functional KVs, including three abroad in Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran, with about 13.56 lakh students.
