National Water Mission holds first regional conference on irrigation water-use efficiency in Jaipur
The Bureau of Water Use Efficiency (BWUE) of the National Water Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti, held the first Regional Conference on Enhancing Water Use Efficiency in the Irrigation Sector at CCS NIAM, Jaipur, on 22 November 2025.
Summary
The Jaipur conference of the Bureau of Water Use Efficiency is the first of four regional conferences planned this year. Officials noted that nearly 80â85% of India's freshwater is used for agriculture and stressed micro-irrigation. Mission Director Archana Varma spoke on the newly launched MCAD scheme, which aims to improve irrigation water-use efficiency through pressurised pipes. About 150 participants attended, including officers from Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, J&K and Leh.
