BSNL launches Voice over WiFi calling nationwide
BSNL on 1 January 2026 rolled out Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi), or Wi-Fi Calling, to customers in all telecom circles, free of extra charge.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on 1 January 2026 announced the nationwide rollout of Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi), also called Wi-Fi Calling, for customers in every telecom circle. VoWiFi lets users make and receive calls and messages over a Wi-Fi network using their existing number and phone dialer, and is an IMS-based service that supports seamless handover between Wi-Fi and mobile networks. BSNL said the service is free of cost and particularly useful in rural and remote areas with weak mobile coverage.
