The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) reopened Zojila Pass on 1 April 2025 after a closure of just 32 days, with BRO Director General Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan flagging off the first convoy towards Ladakh. The high-altitude pass connects the Kashmir Valley to Ladakh. This winter, snowfall from a Western Disturbance fell for 17 days, from 27 February to 16 March 2025, and BRO personnel cleared the accumulated snow in 15 days, between 17 and 31 March. BRO keeps the pass open through Project Beacon in Kashmir and Project Vijayak in Ladakh; the annual closure has come down from about six months a few decades ago to a few weeks.
