BRO's Project Deepak marks its 66th Raising Day in Shimla

Project Deepak of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), raised in 1961 and responsible for over 1,100 km of roads in Himachal Pradesh including the Hindustan-Tibet Road and stretches of the Manali-Leh axis, celebrated its 66th Raising Day in Shimla on 4 May 2026.

Raised in 1961 and one of BRO's oldest projects, Project Deepak covers key districts of Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, Kinnaur, Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti, and maintains over 1,100 km of roads, including critical high-altitude and border roads. The project built the historic Hindustan-Tibet Road and key stretches of the Manali-Leh axis; its teams rescued about 300 stranded motorists at Baralachala Pass in May 2023 and evacuated over 250 civilians from Chandrataal in July 2023.
