Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth inaugurated the 28-km Chungthang–Lachen axis and the 400-ft Taram Chu Bailey suspension bridge in North Sikkim, restored by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), on 26 February 2026. The work is a milestone in post-disaster recovery after the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood of October 2023, Cyclone Remal in June 2024 and cloudbursts in May–June 2025. Under Project Swastik, BRO cleared 96 landslides, built four major bridges and repaired two others, and cut 8 km of fresh formation; the 7.5-km Naga–Toong stretch had opened in October 2025.
