The BNP returns to power after about two decades, in the first election since the 2024 uprising that ousted Sheikh Hasina's government. Tarique Rahman is the son of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him on 13 February, saying India will continue to support a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. Power is to pass from the interim government of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
