Biometric Aadhaar Authentication made mandatory for subsidised domestic LPG refills from 1 October 2026
On 19 September 2026, the Petroleum Ministry announced that from 1 October 2026 domestic LPG consumers must have completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to book refills at the regulated price with subsidy.
Summary
Biometric Aadhaar Authentication for LPG links each domestic connection to an Aadhaar-authenticated consumer so that subsidised cylinders reach genuine households. The Petroleum Ministry said 27.43 crore consumers, or 89.9%, have already completed authentication and need not do it again. Consumers who have not completed BAA can do it during refill delivery, at the distributor's showroom or on oil marketing company (OMC) mobile apps. The ministry said the step aims to stop diversion of subsidised cylinders to commercial and industrial use and to remove duplicate and ineligible connections.
